Album Review The Harp.

Thought I would put up this April review of Mals album for people browsing MM looking for info about his music .

MALACHI
ALBUM & SINGLE FROM FAME ACADEMY STAR

22-year-old Malachi Cush has seen his world turned upside down in just over six months; and he is loving every minute of it. Last summer the only part of the world he had seen was his native Ireland but a successful audition for Fame Academy changed everything.

Now he has released his debut album and single. The album 'Malachi' was released on the 24th March to be followed by the single 'Just Say You Love Me' on the 7th April both through Mercury Records/UMTV.

Malachi got down to the final five contestants on Fame Academy, where he narrowly lost out in an emotional head to head with his friend Ainslie, but in his time in the house his infectious charm had made him a firm favourite with everyone in the show and the millions of viewers who tuned in.

His Irish roots are very much in evidence when it comes to his music. Born and raised in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, Malachi is from a very close-knit musical family who spent many hours singing and playing music together.

It is these Irish folk roots that influence his own sound where he name checks classic Irish songwriters such as Van Morrison and Shane MacGowan as his favourites.

After leaving the Fame Academy he was immediately signed to Mercury Records and started work on his album, which includes his own compositions alongside covers of his favourite songs.

It was performances of timeless tracks such as 'Vincent' (Don McLean) and 'Something' (The Beatles) on the show that proved he has the sort of distinctive timeless voice that more than matches the quality of the songs he is singing.

Both these tracks are included on his album (the first to be released by a Fame Academy student) and other highlights are his versions of Van Morrison's 'Have I Told You Lately That I love You?' and U2's 'All I Want Is You'. Alongside these covers there are two self-penned tracks EYES of blue and his debut single 'Just Say You Love Me' which fit perfectly with tracks from Sting to The Waterboys.

One of the standout moments on the album is his duet with Sinead Quinn, they perform the little known but beautiful Shane MacGowan song 'You're The One' and the chemistry between the two of them is very much in evidence. The video for 'Just Say You Love Me' includes a cameo appearance by Jenni Falconer from GMTV's Entertainment Today.

Malachi's strong warm personality pervades through the whole album, which is sure to appeal across the generations.

That picture is really something, famefan. I've never seen it before.

A very different shot of our favourite guy. He is always smiling and happy on most photos but on that shot he looks mean and moody, but pure gorgeous too!

wowwowwow
